The Role of Local Governments in the Development of the Tourism Sector in Biak Numfor Regency

Sustainable tourism sector development requires the participation of various parties. This study aims to determine the role of local governments in the development of the tourism sector in Biak Numfor Regency. This research is qualitative descriptive, while the data collection technique is carried out through observation, interviews, and literature studies. Furthermore, the informants in this study are the local government, in this case the Biak Numfor Regency Tourism Office and the people of Biak Numfor Regency. In addition, the selection of informants was carried out through purposive sampling. The data analysis technique used in this study is a qualitative data analysis technique. The results of the study show that in terms of Access to Tourist Destinations, the Tourism Office has made significant improvements in road infrastructure to leading tourist sites such as Tanjung Sarweri and Snudi Beach. Regarding Tourist Destination Facilities, despite progress in providing basic facilities such as toilets and seating, many facilities still do not meet the expected standards. In terms of Tourist Attractions, Biak Numfor Regency has very rich potential, especially in terms of natural beauty and local culture.
