Voices of the Ancestral Land: Narratological Perspectives on Tandag City's Oral Traditions"
The oral literatures in the city of tandag are still evident despite the influx of technology. The gathered oral literatures were riddles, balak, legends and folktales. Themes were embedded such as guitar as an entertainment body resonance, the portrayal of a shadow to a person, onion as medicine, perspective on marriage, the native nipa hut as part of filipino culture, the power of love, rice field and its significance within filipino culture, the unseen and mysterious being, respect to mysterious creature, securing peace and safety to the authority, the belief on balete tree, act of gratitude, the abundance of fruit/nature, the symbolic power of gold, the faith on, quack doctors, traditional courtship, the authority of parents, the belief about engkanto, invisible dwende, mysterious wakwak, and my friend-dwende. The researcher documented the traditional oral literature of Tandaganons and was able to develop a contextualized module that targets one of the competencies in the 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World. Tandaganons have significantly inherit the value that is put on retelling their literature as a way to preserve cultural history and pass on information to future generations. These oral literatures provide insights into the community's beliefs, traditions, and past experiences in addition as being sources of entertainment and shared memory. The study indeed contributes not just in fulfilling the mandate of the Department of Education when it comes to contextualization, but also provides a clear framework for the target of the researcher. Furthermore, this module will not only preserve the oral literatures of the Tandaganons but also contribute to the enrichment of the 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World subject, thereby aligning with the goals of the Basic Education Act. Additionally, this study shall promote inclusivity and diversity within the education system, promoting a deeper comprehension of literature from both local and global perspectives.
